best of barcelona

December 14, 2017

This post is long overdue, I can't believe it's been over three months since I was in Barcelona. The trip was short but sweet, a hectic 48 hours exploring the city, between my week in Italy and heading back to London.
Coffee Shops
Wherever I go, I always like to find independent coffee shops to try. The two I visited in Barcelona were 'Satan's Coffee Corner' and 'Nomad Coffee'. Nomad had a really good iced latte with a knowledgeable barista happy to talk about anything coffee related. Satan's on the other hand, had three rules, 'no wifi, no decaf, no fun for children'. I absolutely love that, I wish we had something similar in London. The shop is quite hidden, but it's very near the Barcelona Cathedral. Sadly, the coffee was subpar although I'd return just for the atmosphere.
Barceloneta Beach
No trip to Barcelona is complete without a trip to the famous Barceloneta beach. It's packed with tourists, so be careful of scams and thieves.
The photo on the left is from Brunch & Cake, a chain of cafes across Barcelona with the best brunch. They have amazing acai bowls and avocado toasts, with stacks of bread and pineapples galore. I went to the one by the beach, which had a great outdoor space.
Casa Batllo and La Pedrera
Barcelona wouldn't be the same without the architectural masterpieces of Gaudi. The two houses were the highlight of my trip, seeing the brilliant ideas and how the architecture flowed from one room to another.
Park Guell
Part of the park was under renovation but it's definitely still worth visiting. The views are almost as great as the architecture.
Sagrada Familia
The incomplete church is still one of Barcelona's main attractions. Everything about this church was stunning, and I can't wait to return when it's complete.

  2. I wonder if we were in Barcelona at the same time! I went about three months ago too and there's so much to see. I didn't do coffee shops since I went with my young kids, but I did see some of Gaudi's buildings. I would love to go back again and enjoy all the yummy food and see the beach next time. xoxo, Christine
